Celebrating five years of the arts in the
community, a new exhibition opening Sat., Feb. 17 highlights art
added to the permanent collection at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of
Art.
In recognition of the fifth anniversary of
the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, two exhibitions were organized
under the “Focus on Five” title. In the North Gallery
are gifts of art from various collectors that have been added to
the permanent collection. In the South Gallery is “The
Patricia A. and Thomas J. Lehnen Family Art Collection.” Both
exhibitions will run through April 15.
Since the Museum opened in January 2002,
321 paintings, sculptures, prints, posters and works on paper have
been added to the collection through donation. To be accepted by
the Museum, all works must satisfy the Museum’s collection
criteria, must successfully go through the Collections
Committee’s review process and be approved by the Board of
Directors. The 321 works have done so and are now part of the
Museum’s permanent collection.
The donations have enhanced the
Museum’s existing fine print collection or they have helped
to establish the Museum as a repository for works by 20th century
artists including David Anderson, Richard Florsheim and Vladimir
Yoffe. Art collections from the Lehnen, Mitchell, Uhl and Zipkin
families have greatly expanded the museum’s permanent
collection. The additions compliment the aesthetics of Abraham
Rattner, Esther Gentle and Allen Leepa and introduce new areas for
the Museum to further pursue.
The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art is located
just west of U.S. 19 at 600 Klosterman Road on the Tarpon Springs
Campus of St. Petersburg College. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m.,
Tues.-Sat.; 5-9 p.m. Thurs. and 1-5 p.m. Sun. Call 727-712-LRMA
