Many years ago the beat that reverberated
along Safety Harbor's Tenth St. South was from the hammers at Gulf
Foundry, once one of the city's largest industrial operations.
Today, all that remains is a huge industrial building between the
street and railroad tracks that separate it from Alligator Lake and
the home of Ruth Eckerd Hall.
On Saturday, Mar. 10, a new beat will
emanate from the old metal building as live music is performed as
part of a unique fine art exhibition presented by a group of local
artists who call themselves "The5."
The evening is planned to be "quite
exceptional in its artwork, unique setting and presentation
compared to the more conservative, common art exhibitions of the
area," said one of the organizers and artists, Martin F.
Hennigan.
The featured artists are Hennigan, who
will present "classically modern figures in their own worlds;" Zard
Tompkins, cubist art with a Caribbean style; Gainor Roberts, who
offers impressionistic pastels, "paintings of fanciful realism;"
Wil Dawson, ultra-modern abstracts; and Kumpa Tawornprom, creator
of "unique sculptures on a grand scale."
The one-night show, 8
p.mn.-midnight, brings the work of these artists together for the
first time.
Now known as the Safety Harbor Complex,
the building is located at 1600 Tenth St. S. (just east of the
intersection of McMullen Booth Road and S.R. 590), Safety Harbor.
The event features live music, wine and cheese and conversations
with The5 artists.
