To the Editor:

Re: Trust in Safety Harbor

Public service is a trust to serve the people and not take from the people. Nadine Nickeson never learned this. In 2006, two newspaper articles in the St. Petersburg Times told of Nickeson's personal role in the changing of the will of Maria Mecca.

Nickeson benefited in the amount of $84,634. In Mecca's original will, the money — $84,634 — would have gone to the City of Safety Harbor to support the library and museum.

Nickeson should now give this money to the City of Safety Harbor, in honor of Maria Mecca. The second will was drawn up when Nadine Nickeson was an elected sitting commissioner, and as such was in a position of trust to serve the people of Safety Harbor. She neglected to serve the people and only served herself. How could anyone trust this woman again?

The voting people of Safety Harbor in 2006 clearly did not trust her self-serving attitude in the Maria Mecca case and voted her out of office in an overwhelming majority. Yet in defiance of voters' wishes, ten months later she filed papers again to run for public office. I repeat, only to serve herself and not the people of Safety Harbor. Unopposed, Nickeson will take office again in March 2007. What makes her think that the voting public wants her back? She is a disgrace to the trust of the office of commissioner of the city of Safety Harbor.
