To the Editor:
Surely more than a few voters are confused
by all of the Steingold campaign signs they have seen around town
which state "re-elect Mayor Andy Steingold," in view of the fact
that no one elected Andy Steingold Mayor in this town in the first
place. Of course, he serves in that capacity by the appointment of
his fellow commissioners, but one can only wonder at the integrity
of an individual who claims to seek "re-election" to an office to
which he was never elected in the first place.
A similar question arises regarding a
piece of campaign literature floating around that shows Mayor
Steingold and Charlie Crist walking together and identifies Mr.
Crist with the following language: "Mayor Steingold joined by
Governor Charlie Crist during the Safety Harbor 911 Tribute Walk."
It would appear the appropriate language here should
be "Andy Steingold walks with NOW Governor Crist." It is
somewhat misleading for Mr. Steingold to indicate that he was
walking with the Governor, when in fact he was walking with the
Attorney General.
These may appear to be small points, but
as a public official, as well as an attorney and officer of the
court, Mr. Steingold should be above the parsing of words.
Respectfully submitted,
John Marakas
