Reader Laments: Too Many Gone Too Soon Due To 'The Gun' E-mail

To the Editor:

Two weeks ago, 33 young college students with bright futures to look forward to were alive and well, all of whom have been lowered into their untimely graves by now.

Two weeks ago, a supervisor at the Johnson Space Center was alive and well. Probably a husband, father and grandfather. Today he is dead.

All over the nation, innocent victims who were alive and well a short time ago are dead today. mothers, fathers, daughters, sons and even grandkids.

The one common denominator in all these tragedies is "THE GUN."

How much more blood of the innocents must be shed before America wakes up and stops this needless and senseless slaughter just so people can say they have a right to own a firearm? When will enough be enough to where the American people will be willing to make a small sacrifice of what they perceive to be a constitutional right so that others may have life and have life abundantly without fear of becoming the next victim of a firearm in the wrong hands. The lame excuse of NRA supporters that "If Guns Are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Have Guns" is getting old. Put as much effort into weeding out the outlaws and rid our streets of guns so we can proudly fly Ol' Glory to the top of the pole rather than at half-mast!

I stand up to be counted as one human being who honestly believes in the sanctity of life and the sacredness of life and is willing to give up my so-called right to own a firearm. Guns and other weapons have only one purpose. To kill, injure, maim and destroy that which is precious in the eyes of God. "LIFE."

America, put down your weapons! Leave weapons in the trained hands of the police and military or the slaughter of innocents will continue in the streets of our cities and the late Russian President Nikita Kruschev will be proven right when he banged his shoe on the podium and exclaimed, "We will bury you without firing a shot!" Because we have become our own worst enemy and are killing ourselves.

"Let There Be Peace On Earth, and Let It Begin With Me!"

CHOOSE LIFE!
