The Safety Harbor Garden Club has selected the home at 325 Bayshore Blvd.,Safety Harbor, (located immediately north of the Safety Harbor Museum) as Garden of the Month for September. Owners are Patrick and Dawn Pendola, their two children, one dog and one cat. Dawn said “Patrick has done all the work on the garden.” He landscaped the front using a curving stone retaining wall with steps and stepping stones leading to the front porch. Lady palms are on each side of the porch steps. On the left above the stone wall are large palm trees surrounded by shrubs and a fountain facing the front porch. Stepping stones below the wall curve down to the walkway leading to the sidewalk. Small, drought-tolerant ginger plants highlight areas in front of the wall. Two stone boulders on the left of the walk are flanked by fountain grass. The Pendolas have bricked patios located at the left side entrance and rear of the house. Trees shade the enclosed rear patio where they grill and enjoy meals served outside. Large planters, some containing palms and other shrubs, decorate the patios. ThePendolas have lived in the home for 11 years. The home was originally built around 1930 by the Dodge family of automotive fame as a winter residence in Tampa. Later the home was floated across Tampa Bay on a barge to its present location. Patrick, who hails from RI and Dawn from NJ, said,“renovations and remodeling of the hom eand gardens are on-going projects when Dawn and I can find time from operating our Whistle Stop Restaurant.”
